September 2021-May 2022:

Many hours of my fourth year of rabbinic school found me at Senior Star at the Kenwood, where I served as student rabbi, leading services every Friday afternoon and a weekly Torah study. I kept services comfortable for the residents, but regularly introduced new poetry or readings to complement our prayers.

Our Torah study varied widely, based on the residents passions. I worked to balance text learning from Torah and Talmud, finding ways to combine those with the stories and experiences of the residents.

Subjects included:

  • “Biblical Fashion and status” - What attire indicates to US

  • “Kissing in the Jewish Bible” - What are the meanings of Kisses?

  • “George Washington and the Jews” - Jewish relationship with government, as the country was founded

  • “Why Rabbi’s go to Jail” - What do you stand for?
